What this chapter covers
This chapter covers cotton, cotton yarn and woven cotton fabrics. Classification turns mainly on three criteria: the cotton content by weight (85% or more, or less than 85%), whether the yarn is put up for retail sale, and for fabrics the weight per square metre, with 200 g as the dividing line. The chapter carries no general exclusion list; its only note defines what "denim" means for subheadings 5209.42 and 5211.42.
Cotton waste, including yarn waste and garnetted stock (52.02)
Cotton sewing thread, whether or not put up for retail sale (52.04)
Cotton yarn containing 85% or more cotton by weight, not put up for retail sale (52.05)
Cotton yarn containing less than 85% cotton, and cotton yarn put up for retail sale (52.06, 52.07)
Woven fabrics containing 85% or more cotton, split between those weighing not more than 200 g/m2 and those weighing more (52.08, 52.09)
Woven fabrics containing less than 85% cotton, mixed mainly or solely with man-made fibres, again split at 200 g/m2 (52.10, 52.11)
Other woven fabrics of cotton (52.12)
Definition of "denim": warp-faced fabrics of yarns of different colours, of 3-thread or 4-thread twill (including broken twill), the warp yarns of one and the same colour and the weft yarns unbleached, bleached, dyed grey or dyed a lighter shade than the warp (5209.42, 5211.42)

Import duty rates across this chapter
The range is always computed WITHIN a single column: showing the EU column and the all-other-countries column as one range would misstate the duty. The binding rate depends on the twelve-digit code and the country of origin.
